Kathryn Dickerson 100% Organic non-AI Writer

I may look prim and proper in this photo, but I've spent my time assisting in a newsroom (aka dodging all kinds of things), on ballfields, in meat lockers, and I've even seen the inside of an Army tank!  Fortunate enough to have worked in the classroom for over a decade and lucky to still be directing students on the stage, writing to bring joy and move readers emotionally is why I do what I do.

Two summers ago, I was surprised to find myself in the position of having a book published - a children's book at that!  It's the only children's literature I've written, other than some children's plays that my co-director and I created for the stage. 

Marco Pollo, World Traveling Chicken: The Adventure Begins!  is set to be released by Brandylane Publishers October 22, 2024.  I wrote it in 2012 after it had marinated in my brain for a couple of years.  Having published it on ebooks via Barnes & Noble, it sat there until summer of 2022 when I finally thought I might send it out into the real, non-internet universe.  The process since then has been quite the introduction to literary contract law, the choosing of and working with an illustrator from halfway around the world, working with an editor to trim 4500 words to 1500 to make it a picture book and creating a website to handle the storyline that had to be cut from the book (there with be QR codes in the book with links to the site!).

The second book is ready to go (I'm holding it for the right moment) and there's a terrific female character I'm excited to introduce.  

Oh, and creating an online presence and getting professional photos done.  See example on right.

Right now I'm working on a larger project that I really hope to be able to complete one day.  If only the dishwasher would empty itself.
